Why Integrative Psychiatry?

Integrative psychiatry takes a patient-centered approach that broadens treatment options beyond the narrow scope of medication and conventional psychotherapy.  It explores the biological, social, psychological, cultural, lifestyle, spiritual, nutritional, and environmental contributions to symptoms and leads to an integrated treatment plan.

An integrated treatment plan may include medication, psychotherapy, and evidence-based complementary and alternative modalities, such as yoga, Ayurveda, and meditation.  Treatment plans are tailored to meet each person’s specific needs and lifestyle, and work to build one’s self-awareness, self-development, and self-care.

Integrative psychiatry does not simply focus on treating current symptoms.  The prevention of emotional distress and the promotion of long-term health and wellness are also essential.
